Description

Crispy air fryer halloumi, a quick and savory appetizer that delivers a crunchy exterior with a squeaky center — ready in under 20 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 250 g (8.8 oz) halloumi, cut into 1 cm (3/8 inch) slices
  • 240 ml (1 cup) cold water
  • 5 g (1 tsp) kosher salt
  • 15 ml (1 tbsp) extra-virgin olive oil or neutral oil spray
  • 1/4 tsp smoked paprika or ground cumin (optional)
  • Lemon wedges for serving
  • Chopped parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Slice the halloumi into 12 slices about 1 cm thick. Mix cold water with kosher salt and stir until dissolved. Submerge the slices for 2–3 minutes.
  2. Pat both sides of the slices completely dry with paper towels.
  3. Brush or spray both sides of the halloumi slices lightly with olive oil and sprinkle with smoked paprika or cumin if using.
  4. Preheat the air fryer to 200°C (400°F) for 3 minutes.
  5. Place the halloumi slices in the air fryer basket without overlapping and cook for 4 minutes, then flip and cook for another 3–4 minutes until golden and crisp.
  6. Transfer to a plate, squeeze lemon over the hot slices, scatter chopped parsley, and serve immediately.

Notes

For best results, pat the slices dry thoroughly before air-frying. Serve with a herbed yogurt or lemon-tahini dip.
