A luscious dessert featuring three distinct layers of dark, milk, and white chocolate, frosted with rich chocolate buttercream.

- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- ¾ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp cocoa powder (for dark chocolate layer)
- ¼ cup melted dark chocolate
- ¼ cup melted milk chocolate
- ¼ cup melted white chocolate
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- ½ cup cocoa powder (for frosting)
- 2–3 tbsp heavy cream
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
- Pinch of salt (for frosting)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease and line three cake pans with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, then mix in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk. Mix until smooth.
- Split the batter into three bowls.
- Add cocoa powder and melted dark chocolate to the first portion. Stir.
- Add melted milk chocolate to the second portion and mix.
- Add melted white chocolate to the third portion and stir.
- Pour each batter into prepared pans and bake for 20–25 minutes. Let cool completely.
- Beat softened butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and cocoa powder. Mix in heavy cream, vanilla extract, and salt.
- Place the dark chocolate layer on a serving plate, spread with chocolate buttercream, and add the milk chocolate layer.
- Add another layer of chocolate buttercream and top with the white chocolate layer.
- Use remaining buttercream to frost the top and sides of the cake.
- Refrigerate for 30 minutes before serving to firm up the buttercream.
