- ½ cup panko breadcrumbs
- ¼ cup finely chopped onion or green onion
- 2 to 3 garlic cloves (minced)
- 2 to 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1 large egg (lightly beaten)
- 1 to 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard or Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper (to taste)
- ½ to 1 cup additional panko or breadcrumbs (for coating)
- Vegetable or canola oil (for frying)
- Optional: lemon wedges, tartar sauce, chopped parsley for garnish
Instructions
- In a large bowl, gently combine crab meat, ½ cup panko, chopped onion, garlic, mayonnaise, beaten egg, and Dijon mustard or Worcestershire sauce. Season with salt and pepper.
- Shape the mixture into small bite-sized balls or patties, then press each into the remaining panko or breadcrumbs to coat evenly.
- Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat to about ½ inch depth until shimmering.
- Fry the crab bites in batches, turning occasionally, until golden brown on all sides, about 2 to 3 minutes per side.
- Remove bites with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
- Serve warm, garnished with lemon wedges, tartar sauce, or parsley as desired.
