Description

Delight in these crispy ham and cheese puff pastry stacks, a perfect savory snack or appetizer featuring flaky puff pastry layered with savory ham, melted cheese, and a hint of Dijon mustard.


Ingredients

  • 1 package (approximately 17.3 ounces) frozen puff pastry sheets, thawed
  • 8 slices of ham
  • 8 slices of cheese (Swiss, Gruyere, or Cheddar recommended)
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard (optional)
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: fresh herbs (such as thyme or rosemary) for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface.
  3. Cut each sheet into 4 equal squares for a total of 8 squares.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk the beaten egg with 1 tablespoon of milk.
  5. Place one slice of ham on each puff pastry square. Optionally, spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard over the ham. Then, top with a slice of cheese. Season with salt, pepper, and sprinkle fresh herbs if using.
  6. Place another puff pastry square on top of each ham and cheese layer. Press gently to seal and crimp the edges with a fork.
  7. Brush the tops of each stack with the egg wash.
  8. Arrange the stacks on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Remove from oven and let cool slightly on a wire rack. Serve warm.
