- 8 slices of ham
- 8 slices of cheese (Swiss, Gruyere, or Cheddar recommended)
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard (optional)
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 tablespoon milk
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: fresh herbs (such as thyme or rosemary) for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

- Cut each sheet into 4 equal squares for a total of 8 squares.
- In a small bowl, whisk the beaten egg with 1 tablespoon of milk.
- Place one slice of ham on each puff pastry square. Optionally, spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard over the ham. Then, top with a slice of cheese. Season with salt, pepper, and sprinkle fresh herbs if using.
- Place another puff pastry square on top of each ham and cheese layer. Press gently to seal and crimp the edges with a fork.

- Arrange the stacks on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- Remove from oven and let cool slightly on a wire rack. Serve warm.
Notes
- These stacks are best served fresh but can be reheated in an oven.
- Experiment with different cheese types for varied flavors.
