Scale
- 8 ripe pears (about 4 pounds), preferably Bartlett or Anjou
- 1 tablespoon bottled lemon juice
- 1½ cups brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
- ¼ teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Wash, peel, core, and cut pears into eighths for quicker cooking.
- Add pears to a 6-quart slow cooker with lemon juice, brown sugar, pumpkin pie spice, and salt. Stir well.
- Cover and cook on LOW for 7–8 hours or HIGH for 4–5 hours, until pears are soft and fragrant.
- Let mixture cool slightly, then blend with an immersion or stand blender until smooth. For a rustic texture, mash with a potato masher.
- Transfer to sterilized jars. Refrigerate for up to 3 weeks, freeze up to 6 months, or water-bath can for long-term storage.
