Ingredients

  • 250 g (2 cups) all-purpose flour
  • 200 g (1 cup) granulated sugar
  • 10 g (2 tsp) baking powder
  • 3 g (1/2 tsp) fine salt
  • 113 g (1/2 cup) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 240 ml (1 cup) whole milk, room temperature
  • 120 g (1/2 cup) sour cream
  • 10 ml (2 tsp) pure vanilla extract
  • Optional: Zest from 1 lemon or 1 tsp almond extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 175°C (350°F) and prepare the pan.
  2. Sift together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Cream the butter and sugar in a stand mixer until pale and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.
  5. Alternately add the dry ingredients with the milk and sour cream until just combined.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
  7. Bake for 30–35 minutes until golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Cool in the pan, then transfer to a cooling rack. Frost once completely cool.
