Easy Southern Baked Spaghetti for a Flavorful Family Meal

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb dried spaghetti pasta
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 medium yellow onion, chopped
  • 1 medium green bell pepper, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 lb ground beef (or turkey/chicken/plant-based substitute)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tbsp Italian seasoning
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ¼ tsp crushed red pepper (optional)
  • 1 (24 oz) jar pasta sauce
  • 1 (14.5 oz) can fire-roasted diced tomatoes
  • ⅔ cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ⅔ cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Boil spaghetti until al dente, drain, and set aside.
  2. Preheat oven to 400°F. In a pot, heat olive oil, add onion and bell pepper, and sauté until softened. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  3. Add ground beef and cook until browned. Season with salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, paprika, and red pepper flakes.
  4. Stir in pasta sauce and fire-roasted tomatoes. Cover and simmer for 8–10 minutes to deepen the flavor.
  5. Mix cooked spaghetti with sauce, transfer to a greased 9×13 baking dish, and top with cheddar and mozzarella.
  6. Bake for 20–25 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
