Description

A cozy guide to making the perfect Original Irish Coffee with bold coffee, Irish whiskey, and a creamy float.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz strong brewed coffee
  • 12 tsp brown sugar
  • 1.5 oz Irish whiskey
  • 2 oz heavy cream, lightly whipped
  • Optional garnish: grated nutmeg or chocolate

Instructions

  1. Brew about 8 ounces of strong coffee.
  2. Warm a heatproof glass with hot water; discard the water afterward.
  3. Add 1-2 teaspoons of brown sugar to the glass and fill it with hot coffee until three-quarters full. Stir well to dissolve the sugar.
  4. Pour in 1.5 ounces of Irish whiskey and stir gently.
  5. In a separate bowl, lightly whip 2 ounces of heavy cream until it reaches soft peaks.
  6. Carefully pour the whipped cream over the back of a spoon onto the coffee mixture, allowing it to float on top.

Notes

For a non-alcoholic version, replace whiskey with strong cold-brew coffee or spiced syrup.
