- 2 kg (4.5 lbs) pork shoulder
- 240 ml (1 cup) barbecue sauce
- Salt to taste
- Pepper to taste
- 2 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- Liquid smoke (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the pork by trimming excess fat and seasoning with salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder.
- Sear the meat in a skillet over medium heat for about 5 minutes on each side until browned, if desired.
- Add the pork shoulder to the slow cooker with barbecue sauce and liquid smoke.
- Cook on low for 8 hours or high for 4 hours, until the pork is tender.
- Shred the pork in a bowl, then return to the slow cooker and mix in additional barbecue sauce as desired.
Notes
Let the pork rest in its juices for 30 minutes after cooking for moisture distribution. Store in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
